Sogoc Executive, ODAS Cameroon Focal Point, Camnafaw immortalize the event.
The Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians Cameroon (SOGOC) hosted a one-day meeting with members of the organization, Camnafaw IPPF and the Organization for Safe Abortion Dialogue (ODAS) Cameroon.
The objective of the meeting was to strengthen collaboration and coordination between ODAS and SOGOC towards curbing maternal mortality through access to safe abortion services.
Didier Floriane Fotsing, the ODAS Focal Point in Cameroon, explained that “ODAS primary objective is to build and support national partnership in favor of access and the right to safe abortion relying on networks of young people, feminists, local NGOs, and professional bodies amongst others to establish authentic relationships while capitalizing on actions already being carried out towards access to safe abortion.”
He added that this approach led to the establishment of a national multidisciplinary group in Cameroon last April 2024, with SOGOC as a member.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss various areas of collaboration between the two institutions. Discussions focused on a presentation of the ODAS Center, feedback on the establishment of the working group, and action plans carried out from previous meetings.

ODAS also expressed interest in collaborating with SOGOC towards the collection of data, which was identified as a challenge for SOGOC although some laudable work has been done so far.
Dr. Darolles Mwadje, the Secretary-General of SOGOC, appreciated ODAS Cameroon and looked forward to a fruitful collaboration. However, she also mentioned training of SOGOC members and students in medical schools specialized in gynecology, and financial and logistical challenges remain challenges for the society.
