On Thursday May 19 2022, the Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians of Cameroon(SOGOC) officially presented her publication on “Managing referrals and providing medical care for rape survivors of Cameroon”
The event which held in Yaoundé, saw the convergence of over 15 partners notably the Ministry of health, Women’s Empowerment, ACMS, CAMNAFAW etc. and was presided by the President of the society, Professor Emeritus Robert Leke.
In his address, he explained that the document was born out of the need for a manual that clearly spells out out standardized guidelines for medical care, and treatment for survivors of rape. He reiterated that, several manuals exists on the management of rape survivors but , these documents do not provide roadmap for abortion for pregnancies resulting from rape. The document developed by the society provides a multi sectorial response to most of the dilemmas stakeholders face in handling survivors and takes into consideration, the national strategies for preventing and eliminating all form of sexual violence.
He appealed on the health communities and the general public to make ample use of the document which is now readily available at the SOGOC Office.
