Collaborations between the Society for Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of Cameroon (SOGOC) and Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family( MINPROFF) have taken a new meaning with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The signing which took place on Friday February 19, at the Conference hall of the MINPROF, seeks to strengthen cooperation and reinforce capacity in the domain of maternal and reproductive health/right in Cameroon.
The Minister, Professor Abena Ondoua Nee Obama Marie Therese, stated 30% of maternal related death are linked to unsafe abortions, hence the MOU will permit SOGOC to carry out activities in the domain of advocacy, research, training, sensitization and monitoring for the improvement of Maternal health. She further explained that the MOU confers an obligations to MINPROFF to facilitate SOGOC’s advocacy actions and also facilitate administrative formalities for the implementation of projects especially the ACAC project.
On SOGOC’s part, The President of (SOGOC) in the person of Professor Emeritus Ivo J. Robert Leke stated that, the society has amongst other obligations, the responsibility of providing technical support on maternal, neo natal and infant morbidity and supporting MINPROFF’s actions in areas of sexual and reproductive health of women and girls.
